Each spring, VIC Radio hosts the 50 Hour Marathon, a weekend-long fundraising effort that benefits a local non-profit organization.
The annual event was first held in 1986.
In April 2019, October 2021 and September 2022, the annual event was recognized by the New York State Broadcasters Association with a “Serving New York” award, honoring the station’s commitment to the Ithaca community.
For the 37th annual 50 Hour Marathon (April 26st – 28th, 2024), VIC Radio will raise money for No Mas Lagrimas. DJ’s Peter Gillen, Inbaayini Anbarasan, Rowan Keller Smith and Piper Davis will stay awake and on-the-air for fifty straight hours.

THE 2022 MARATHON RAISED $5,104 FOR SOUTHSIDE COMMUNITY CENTER!
For the 36th annual 50 Hour Marathon (April 21st – 23rd, 2023), VIC Radio raised more than $4,000 for Advocacy Center of Tompkins County. DJ’s Andy Tell, Carly Vallet, Clare Breakell and Aidan Charde stayed awake and on-the-air for fifty straight hours.
The 2021 Marathon benefited the Ithaca Children’s Garden. Chris Masciarelli, Chloe Levy, Teagen Parker and Teddy Byrne stayed awake and on the air for 50 hours straight, accepted donations from listeners, and played some awesome music! $3,865 was raised for ICG. The 2019 Marathon benefited the Suicide Prevention and Crisis Service of Tompkins County. Katie Siple, Will Carlson, Alys Derby & Finn McMillan battled the urge to sleep, accepted donations, and played some great tunes. $3,619.73 was raised for SPCS.
The 2018 Marathon benefitted Cinemapolis, Ithaca’s non-profit, independent movie theater.
In 2017, $2,334.00 was raised for Friendship Donations Network.
